Complaint Channels
Three complaint channels with different purposes. Choosing the right one gets your report to the people who can act on it.
Complaints
Choose the right channel
They differ not only in purpose, but in the identity they ask of you.
Environmental complaints
Suspected pollution or environmental damage falling under the Environment Agency of Deli Serdang Regency.
- Examples
- Factory waste in a river, a strong smell from a warehouse, piled-up rubbish, open burning.
- Reporter identity
- Required. Your ID number, a photo of your identity card, and a GPS point are needed so the report can be verified on site.
SP4N-LAPOR!
Complaints about the quality of public service — not the environment itself, but how the agency served you.
- Examples
- A permit request left unanswered, unhelpful staff, opening hours that differ from the notice, charges outside the rules.
- Reporter identity
- Required, but can be hidden from the party complained about. SP4N-LAPOR! is the national channel run by the central government.
Officer misconduct
Suspected corruption, gratuities, conflicts of interest, or abuse of authority by agency staff.
- Examples
- Money demanded to speed up a permit, gifts from a party under supervision, a position used for private gain.
- Reporter identity
- May be reported anonymously. It goes to the regency inspectorate, not to the agency being reported.
Wrong channel? Your report is still passed on
If a report arrives through the wrong channel, officers pass it to the unit that has authority and tell you where it went. So do not hold back just because you are unsure which channel to pick.
Environmental complaints require your identity because officers must visit the site and answer for what they do there. Misconduct reports are the opposite — no identity is asked, so that reporters face no reprisal.
