Duties and Functions

Standing

The Environmental Agency of Deli Serdang Regency is an implementing element of regional government affairs, led by a Head of Agency who reports to the Regent of Deli Serdang through the Regional Secretary.

Duty

To assist the Regent in carrying out the mandatory government affairs not related to basic services in the fields of environment and waste management, together with any co-administration tasks assigned to the region.

Functions

In carrying out that duty, the Environmental Agency of Deli Serdang Regency performs the following functions:

1. formulating technical policy in the fields of environment and waste management;
2. preparing the Regional Environmental Protection and Management Plan and studies of environmental carrying and assimilative capacity;
3. assessing environmental documents and issuing environmental approvals within regional authority;
4. organising waste management, from reduction and separation at source through collection, transport, and treatment to final processing;
5. controlling pollution and damage to water, air, and soil, including the management of hazardous and toxic waste within its authority;
6. monitoring, supervising, and administratively enforcing environmental law on businesses and activities;
7. handling complaints and settling environmental disputes;
8. delivering environmental education, training, outreach, and awards to the public and to businesses;
9. managing green open space and conserving the region's biodiversity;
10. performing the agency's secretariat, administration, personnel, finance, and reporting functions;
11. carrying out other functions assigned by the Regent in line with its duties and functions.
